PG - 220-224 AB - The association of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) types with cervical cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is controversial. In this study we examined 186 Australian women who had biopsy-confirmed cervical cancer and detected HLA DQB1 alleles and HPV DNA, using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and sequence specific oligonucleotides probe (SSOP) hybridization methods. We analyzed the frequencies of 11 DQB1 alleles according to HPV DNA status (HPV positivity and HPV genotyping) and histology (tumor type, staging, grades, lymphocyte infiltration and nodal status). No significant differences among these 11 HLA DQB1 alleles were found with respect to HPV status and histology.
