PG - 108-10 AB - The Y chromosome in chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, was identified using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with a probe to a male-specific repetitive sequence isolated from this species. The probe highlights the distal end of the short arm of an acrocentric chromosome with a DAPI-bright interstitial band of variable size. The proximal portion of the short arm of the Y chromosome contains 5S rDNA sequences, which are also found on the short arms of six other acrocentric chromosomes in this species.
