PG - 401-4 AB - OBJECTIVE: To explore the relationship between FABP2 Ala54Thr polymorphism and the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases (NFLD). METHODS: A hospital-based case-control study was conducted and polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was used to detect FABP2 Ala54Thr genotypes. The cases and controls were interviewed by using the same questionnaire. RESULTS: The genotype frequencies of Ala54Ala, Ala54Thr and Thr54Thr were 39.7%, 46.6% and 13.7% in cases, and 48.5%, 43.1% and 8.4% in controls. The Thr allele frequency in cases (36.97%) was higher than that in the controls (29.94%)(P = 0.01). Multiple logistic regression results showed that after adjusting other confound factors, the Thr54 Thr genotype was the independent risk factor of NFLD (OR = 1.97, 95% CI: 1.18-3.35). CONCLUSION: FABP2 Thr54Thr genotype might increase the risk of NFLD development.
