PG - 408-411 LID - 10.5152/iao.2018.3201 [doi] AB - OBJECTIVES: The study was done to compare Auditory late latency response (ALLR) in normal-hearing individuals without diabetes mellitus and normal-hearing individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 50 participants within the age range of 40-60 years were enrolled in the study based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. They were divided into two groups with one group consisting of 25 individuals with T2DM and the other group consisted of 25 individuals without diabetes as the control group. RESULTS: The results revealed prolonged latencies and reduced amplitude of P1, N1 and P2 wave among individuals with T2DM compared to control group. There was a significant positive correlation observed for ALLR latency and duration of T2DM, and a negative correlation observed for ALLR amplitude and duration of T2DM. CONCLUSION: The present study concluded that there is a problem in the encoding of speech at the cortical level despite normal hearing in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
